The Crew Will Include Microtransactions

Ubisoft’s upcoming racing MMO The Crew will have microtransactions, Ubisoft confirmed on Wednesday.

In a comment to Videogamer, Ubisoft revealed that players will be given the opportunity to purchase “performance parts” for cars. The Crew will feature two types of currency, real money and in-game cash known as “crew credits”.

Ubisoft stated that players shouldn’t worry about not being able to progress and enjoy the game should they not want to spend money on upgrades to their cars. Fans will still be able to do everything the game offers in terms of upgrades, but it will just take longer than those who choose to pay some extra cash.

Ubisoft is expected to announce details on preventing the game from become pay-to-win in the near future.

Mike’s Musings: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I hate microtransactions. Nothing says pyramid scheme like paying for a game only to pay for stuff inside a game. That’s a big reason why I don’t purchase DLC either. I don’t get, in terms of The Crew, why fans want to take away value from the game and the thrill of earning that new upgrade by simply forking over more cash for it. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
