To kick off the Smash Bros Nintendo Direct, game director Masahiro Sakurai has announced that the Nintendo 3DS version of the upcoming Super Smash Bros game will be released in the Summer of 2014. Meanwhile, the Wii U version of the game will be released later this year, during the winter of 2014.
It seems like an odd choice to dedicate the first release of the game for the handheld version, especially when you consider the fact that the Nintendo consoles have been the only platform to see the arcade fighter come to life. However, it seems that due to the overwhelming success of the Nintendo 3DS and the less-than-specatular sales of the Wii U, priority goes to more sales.
