Resistance Franchise To Go Offline April 8
By Erik Sugay
Developer Insomniac Games has confirmed that its Resistance franchise on PlayStation 3 will be going offline April 8. As such, all multiplayer and cooperative modes for Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3 will cease. Sony made the announcement late last year that online play for the series would be ending sometime soon, but the date was not set until now.
No specifics have been offered as to why these services are concluding. However, Insomniac did clarify that it wasn’t their decision. “There are a large variety of reasons why they have to shut down. Sony makes that call though, not us. They maintain online.”
When questioned about the future of the online play modes for Resistance: Burning Skies, the series’ entry on the PlayStation Vita, Insomniac responded via Twitter, “not sure.” There’s a possibility that it won’t share the same unfortunate fate as its high-definition console brethren.
While the developers have expressed interest in crafting a fourth entry in the franchise, no official announcement or plans have been made. Once a Sony-exclusive developer, Insomniac Games is again testing other platforms by currently working on an Xbox One exclusive called Sunset Overdrive.
Worried about any other games you won’t be able to play online? Scheduled for May 31st, Gran Turismo 5 is the next PS3 game whose online play modes will be ending.
