Crytek And DeNA Unleash Tactical Action Game The Collectables On iOS
By Nick Tylwalk
Crytek isn’t the first name that comes to mind when thinking about mobile games. Still, the company behind the Far Cry and Crysis series and developer of CryEngine technology is giving the iOS market a shot, teaming with DeNA to release The Collectables, a tactical action game that hit the App Store today.
The Collectables has players building squads of mercenaries which can be upgraded using a collectible card system. Troops are then sent into fast-paced, third-person tactical battles, and perhaps not surprisingly, the game’s visuals are a big drawing card.
“Crytek managed to do the unthinkable and integrate their remarkable CryEngine technology into the company’s first free-to-play mobile game,” Barry Dorf, head of strategic partnerships at DeNA, said in a press release. “The Collectables is a visually stunning and explosive gameplay experience that pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved on mobile devices.”
An Android version is also in the works, and you can sign up to receive an email alert when it’s available and get an exclusive version of the in-game character Reload just by pre-registering on the game’s official site.
If you aren’t convinced about what this interesting new marriage of gaming companies can produce, maybe the launch trailer will help:
