SteelSeries Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller
By Jon McSwain
SteelSeries, the Danish gaming peripherals and accessories company has just recently released its newest wireless iOS controller called the “Stratus”. The Stratus Wireless gaming controller was just awarded the “Best of CES 2014” and appears poised to help facilitate more traditional games on iOS devices. The controller works with the MFi program which Apple started to help create peripherals for iOS devices. Apple updated the MFi programs with ios7, making a specific effort to promote controllers being created for iOS devices. The potential to create a product that could improve the ability for iOS users to play more traditional style games, is not only needed, but essential for iOS devices to attract more immersive games. The possibilities seem endless as long as this controller has limited lag and a long battery life. Both things that I will have to evaluate once given the opportunity. I hope to get my hands on one of these in the near future so that I can give a full review, but until then check out the picture below to give you an idea as to the size of the controllers.
They are currently on sale from the SteelSeries website and will hopefully encourage more gaming companies to create more traditional games. The potential to use an apple tv, streaming from an iPad/iphone, while utilizing a wireless gaming controller that looks and feels like the controllers we are all used too, could spell great things in the coming months for SteelSeries and Apple.
