Amy Hennig, Creative Director & Writer, Has Left Naughty Dog
Reported late last night by IGN, with Sony since confirming the report, creative director and writer Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. She was responsible for the Uncharted series’ writing and direction on the PlayStation 3, and was reportedly working on the upcoming edition on the PS4.
While IGN sources whisper stories that she was forced out by The Last of Us’ Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, it is better to wait and see how this house of cards falls before making accusations of this nature. If it were true, however, it would create quite the damaged view of the power structure over at Naughty Dog, who have gained the trust of consumers and Sony over the course of many years.
What we can say, however, is that Amy Hennig’s departure is a huge blow to Sony (unless she rejoins the company at another studio). Lately, they have been bleeding workers, from store workers to studio developers. Outside of Hennig leaving, it may all be blowback from Sony’s recent financial quarter numbers, which suggest the company overall is in big trouble.
While the PlayStation department seems to be their diamond in the rough, Sony as an electronics and insurance company may be completely different in a year’s time. Amy Hennig leaving Naughty Dog is a major blow to the creative aspects of the company, which may have a huge impact on the future of their game products.
