Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Runs 1080p On PS4, 720p On Xbox One

It’s official, and it comes directly from Konami themselves; Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes runs at 1080p on the PS4, 720p on the Xbox One and less than 720p (but upscaled) on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The framerate will hit 60 FPS on the 8th generation consoles, while reaching 30 FPS on 7th generation consoles.

It’s a bit shocking, really. The hope was that the Xbox One version of Ground Zeroes would at least fall somewhere in the middle of 1080p and 720p, just like how Ryse: Son of Rome came out looking stunning in 900p. Instead, the PS4 version will have 2.25 times the pixel count of the Xbox One version.

Still, the visual fidelity provided by Konami’s Fox Engine provides Ground Zeroes with some impressive qualities. Rain looks slick on Snake’s sneaking suit, distant objects can be seen in great detail during night and day, textures look sharp and text is legible. One of the great treasures of Hideo Kojima’s games is that he likes to put in the most amount of attention to detail possible. With the improvement in the physics afforded by the PS4 and Xbox One’s hardware specifications, it’ll be interesting to see just how involved the first half of Metal Gear Solid V will be, hidden gameplay-wise.

Hopefully the Xbox One version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will bridge the visuals gap over the year(s) it takes to develop the second half of the game, even if it may not reach 1080p in the end. The first half of Metal Gear Solid V, Ground Zeroes, will be released on the PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 18th.
