Worms Battlegrounds Announced For PS4, Xbox One

It wouldn’t be a new generation of games if there wasn’t some sort of update to the Worms IP. That’s right, Team 17 has announced in a press release that Worm Battlegrounds will be making its way to both the PS4 and the Xbox One sometime in 2014. The Xbox One version of Worm Battlegrounds will be one of the first games to be developed through Microsoft’s independent developing program, ID@Xbox.

Joystiq made a note that a Steam version of Worms Battlegrounds has been submitted to the Steam database since November 19th, 2013, meaning that a version of the game will likely be headed toward PC’s sometime in the future.

It will be interesting to see how Worms Battlegrounds will be played on the 8th generation consoles. Millions of people have thrown down upwards of $400 just to play these consoles and buy games for them, yet arguably the most fun way to play a Worms game is with your friends in versus mode. Online play will no doubt be present, but I wonder how many fans will shell out ~$60 plus tax for extra controllers to play with friends so close after making an expensive purchase like a console.

Worms Battlegrounds is projected to come out for the PS4 and Xbox One later in 2014. It will likely also see a PC release on Steam.
