Microsoft Announces New CEO
When incumbent CEO Steve Ballmer announced last August that he was going to retire within the next 12 months, the search immediately began for Microsoft’s next CEO. Today, the company has announced that Satya Nadella will be the one to head the company once Ballmer officially steps down.
Nadella currently holds the position as the company’s head of Cloud and Enterprise.
In a statement released by the company this morning, Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated that he believes there is no better person to lead the company through, what he called, a time of transformation.
Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together,” Gates said in his statement. “His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
Nadella added via the announcement, “Microsoft is one of those rare companies to have truly revolutionised the world through technology, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company. The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform. A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly.”
