Ubisoft Montreal Veterans Form PIXYUL Studios
By Chris Lacey
A new studio is being formed by two veterans from Ubisoft Montreal in Louis Pierre-Farand and Julien Cury. The new studio, also based in Montreal, is called PIXYUL Studios and they’re already working on their first project titled: ReRoll.
It’s being described as an action survival game in which players attempt to survive the gradual collapse of human civilization, as the game uses real world locations.
PIXYUL is looking to take photographs and 3D maps of real-world places, while enlisting the help of civilian drone company SenseFlight and its small Ebee drone units.
“Our ultimate promise is to reproduce, accurately and at scale, the whole planet with its different eco-system, environments, countries and cities,” says Pierre-Farand.
The studio is also aiming to collect pictures taken by drones, turn them into 3D models and add them to the game engine.
They’re looking into crowd-funding the project, though preferring not to use Kickstarter. Rather, the developer is more interested in a private funding system similar to that of Star Citizen.
You can sound off in the comments section on what you think about the newly formed studio’s first project.
