Top 40 Games From 2004
28. Final Fantasy XI
Due to it not being a traditional turn-based RPG, Final Fantasy XI did not make my list ranking the Final Fantasy games. However, that does not mean that Square’s bold jump into the MMORPG business for consoles should be ignored. It mixed traditional tropes of MMORPG’s (parties, dungeons, group play) with the job class system of Final Fantasies past, including classes like Blue Mage, Dark Knight and Bard. The focus on PvE over PvP kept it more in line with the series, to adequate success.
