Yoshi’s New Island Gameplay Trailer Is Very Punny (Video)
The Yoshi’s New Island trailer has a subtitle proclaiming about the game; “It’s a Shell of a Time.” For a game that is presumably releasing on the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS with an E rating, it’s fun to see Nintendo push the envelope ever so slightly with its pun on the word “Hell.”
Let’s put the trailer name aside and look at the actual content of Yoshi’s New Island. For the most part, it’s more of the same from the original Yoshi’s Island, but with a few new features. Collectible sunflowers and red coins still exist, bonus markers end stages as a new Yoshi takes care of Baby Mario and Yoshi can consume enemies of all sizes and turn them into projectile eggs. New viewing binoculars can allow you to look around the map for hidden secrets, as well.
From what I can gather from the trailer, it’s more of the old game with updated levels on the Nintendo 3/2DS. That’s quite fine, in my opinion. Not every game needs to reinvent the wheel to adapt upon its predecessor, and the fact that the first Yoshi’s Island game came out decades ago an entire new generation of gamers can experience this style of play for the first time. (Hopefully they have more than that one song they keep on using)
Yoshi’s New Island will be released on March 14th here in North America. Check out the gameplay trailer below.
