The director of Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and Vagrant Story, Yasumi Matsuno, is taking to Kickstarter to pitch his next game. Along with relatively-unknown developers, Playdek, the goal is to raise $600,000 to create tactics-based RPG ‘Unsung Story:  Tale of the Guardians‘ for the PC, iOS, Android and Windows tablets.

Unsung Story covers the story of the Seventy-Seven Years War between the kingdoms of the fantasy world of Rasfalia. Each episode within the timeline covers a different set of protagonists within the war, sometime even for opposing sides of the conflict. Heroes act within the confines of several classes, including war mage, Ballast knight, polearm knight and aerolist.

Unsung Story has quite the formidable development team working behind it outside of Matsuno. Some of the staffers include Christophe Boelinger, Gary Weis and the possibility for video game composer Hitoshi Sakimoto as a stretch goal.

Additional stretch goals currently lengthen all the way down to $3.2M in pledges, and include adding New Game+, ports to PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS, voice over acting, additional scenarios. co-operative play and improved audio (including full orchestras and bonus music tracks).

It looks to be like a sizeable task for Playdek, who are known for adapting card and boardgames to mobile devices. It is up to the gaming community whether or not Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is worthy of a project to be fully pledged. As of release, they have already racked up north of $75,000 in pledges with 31 days to go. Let’s see is this game’s story will go untold.
