1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Without further adieu, I bring you the number 1 console game of 2013 – The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

You absolutely can’t get any more perfect than what this game did in 2013.  I was nervous to see the direction the game would take with the new gameplay styles added such as wall blending and renting tools from a shop compared to finding them in dungeouns.

However, it worked and it worked flawlessly.

A Link Between Worlds takes place many generations after A Link to the Past and feels exactly the same as it did back on SNES when I played A Link to the Past for the first time.  A Link to the Past introduced me to the Zelda series and as in the past, I immediately fell in love with A Link Between Worlds.

This Zelda rose above and beyond all other games in 2013 in it’s ability to reintroduce a world that was previously explored many times prior but yet add a new story, new abilities, and new gameplay that is out of this world.

A Link Between Worlds broke the status quo of linear dungeon design and left it in the hands of the player to complete the game as he/she sees fit.  In addition, there are countless hidden treasures spread throughout that are craving to be discovered!

This Zelda not only redefined the handheld console but catapulted it and Zelda into many more years to come.

Let’s just hope the next one rises to the occasion and doesn’t create a “been there done that” feel to it.  After all, there will DEFINITELY be another Zelda to release in the near future.
