Paul Walker Replaced By Rupert Friend For Hitman Movie Sequel, ‘Agent 47’
When Paul Walker was fatally killed in a car incident late last year, we lost a kind soul too early in life. For film studios, it also meant having to deal with the grim situation when it came to the actor’s future roles. One of said roles for Paul Walker happened to be as playing Agent 47 in a Hitman movie sequel. Now it appears as though a replacement has come through, from one of TV’s great current dramas.
As relayed through FlickSided, Homeland actor Rupert Friend has been cast as the lead in the upcoming film, “Agent 47,” in the place of Paul Walker. He will be the second actor to portray the Hitman protagonist in the movie medium, as Timothy Olyphant did so in a not-so-audience-friendly 2007 film, “Hitman.”
While we aren’t often ones to critique casting choices here at GameSided (outside of Metal Gear Solid 3 dream casting), Hitman deserves a great portrayal on the big screen. That’s why the Rupert Friend choice seems like an odd one. The fear is that he will overplay the subtleties of the Agent 47 character, and that another actor could do a better job. However, seeing that even Timothy Olyphant couldn’t do the job well, perhaps thinking outside the box will get the job done masterfully.
