Other games on this list, including the one still to come, had artsier intentions. Consider them the Oscar contenders and “PvZ 2” more of a popcorn flick, if you will. And like the best summer blockbusters, it rocketed to success on the slickness of its total package, givng players more of everything they liked about its predecessor and delivering the gaming equivalent of big time thrills.
On the anecdotal front, this is the only game on my personal iPad that has separate profiles for me, my wife, my daughter and my son, which speaks to its universal appeal. PopCap could have certainly coasted on the strength of the original and half-assed this follow-up, but it certainly didn’t. For that, we should all be grateful, and despite some recent changes in the studio, it’s probably worth crossing our fingers in the hopes that the series will become a trilogy in time.
