One of the biggest video games stories of 2013 just so happened to arise a few weeks before we enter the new year. Youtube has implemented a new system for copyright owners to claim ownership of their content used by channel-owners on their site. The problem is not only are claims made erroneously by the internet equivalent of patent trolls, but claims are being made on videos uploaded by actual developers and copyright holders.
In a year that saw Google+ accounts being mandatory for Youtube accounts plus the requirement of an account to make comments, it has not been a good year for Youtube in 2013. With next year’s affiliate accounts having to screen their videos for monetization before they can be uploaded, another terrible decision for little guys trying to make money through Youtube, the future of widespread gaming on the site is murky.
