SteamOS Now Available

The day is finally here! Valve has launched the first edition of its highly anticipated custom operating system, SteamOS.

The operating system is a custom built version based on the Linux operating system. Installing the open-source OS results in the wiping off the hard drive, so if you are interested in being one of the first public users to get your hands on the OS, I suggest reading the handy dandy FAQ that Valve put together for consumers.

In addition to the operating system’s release, Valve is also sending out steam machines to the lucky 300 people involved in the company’s beta program. SteamOS is free, and will remain that way “forever” according to Valve.
