It’s been teased as a leaked image earlier this week, but now it has been officially confirmed. Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, has revealed at VGX 2013 that Cranky Kong will be a playable character in the upcoming Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which will be released in North America on February 21, 2014.

Additionally, Reggie announced that Cranky Kong can use his cane to bounce along spiky areas to avoid damage, just like Scrooge McDuck in the Ducktales Remastered game that came out earlier this year. A new feature revealed was called the “Kong Pow.” If you fill a meter, both you and your other Kong partner will be able to combo together to clear all enemies on screen.

It was a layered conversation between Geoff Keighley and Joel McHale, as Reggie teased a Metroid game in the future. “I would love to see another Metroid game,” he said. Perhaps that will be in the cards down the line?

Here is some of the gameplay footage.
