UK: PS4’s Call of Duty: Ghosts Outselling Wii U Version

facebooktwitterreddit

The Nintendo Wii U is not known for its third party titles, but from the brands like Mario, Link and Samus created from Nintendo themselves. Even so, in the United Kindom Eurogamer is reporting that Call of Duty: Ghost has sold more units for the PlayStation 4 version than the Wii U version. To be specific, the UK market share for Ghosts is 62% for the Xbox 360, 34% for the PS3, 3% for the PS4 and the combined physical retail sales count for less than 1%.

Understandable when you think the PlayStation 4 is coming out this Friday, right? Well, the PS4 releases in Europe on November 29, almost 3 weeks away from today. That means that a version of Call of Duty: Ghosts that you can actually play right now is being dominated by the eventuality of playing the game at the end of November by more than a 3:1 ratio.

To be fair, the Wii and Wii U brands have not focused on Mature-rated shooters and have generally conceded that department to Microsoft and Sony. However, it can’t look good for 3rd party relations that have been skeptical of adding their games to the Wii U roster, have had to add non-Nintendo versions of their games and charge more to recoup losses, have had 3rd party games fail or have no intention on selling games on the platform unless they can start moving significant units.
