Valve Won’t Make SteamOS Exclusives

For those worried that the introduction of SteamOS and the Steam Machine would lead to Valve releasing its games only for the operating system or game machine, you may know breath a sigh of relief. The company confirmed to IGN that it wouldn’t be making games that are exclusive the Steam Machine or SteamOS.

So that means games like half Life 3, when it eventually comes, won’t require you to have a Steam Machine to play it.

That mindset also extends to third-party titles on the system.

Valve’s Anna Sweet told IGN: “Whenever we talk to third-party partners, we encourage them to put their games in as many places as possible, including not on our platforms. Because we think that customers are everywhere, and they want to put their games wherever customers are. That would go against our whole philosophy, to launch something that’s exclusive to SteamOS or Steam machines.”
