Pokemon DLC Highly Unlikely
Will Pokemon X and Y go the path of most recent releases and get its own paid downloadable content? According to the game’s art director Ken Sugimori, that’s probably not going to be the case.
“When it comes to business, the one thing I’ve always said ‘no!’ to is ‘the act of buying Pokemon with money,” Sugimori told the website 4gamer. “That is something that has been said since the days [long-time Pokemon producer, Satoshi] Tajiri was completely involved in everything.”
When it comes to the reason why, Sugimori thinks it would ruin the Pokemon brand if they were to just start charging for the popular little monsters.
“The reason being is because it’s one of the things that could ruin the worldview of Pokemon,” he said. “I believe the reason we don’t simply commercialize [Pokemon], is that it’s a way of protecting the brand, and for this purpose, we have the specialty company called The Pokemon Company.”
Though that is their belief, the company did say that if there was ever a fun way to distribute Pokemon for money, they would look into it with serious consideration.
Sound off Gamesiders! Would you ever pay for a Pokemon or Pokemon DLC in general? What would you have to see before considering to pay for it?
