Tigers vs Red Sox: Game 3

After splitting their away games 1-1, the Tigers were so close to taking a series advantage in Game 3. Alex Avila provided 2 hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Jhonny Peralta‘s pinch hit home run was though to give the Tigers enough of a lead to win this one. Alas, Justin Verlander gave an 8 inning, 1 ER, 4 hit, 8 K performance that was all for not, as Joaquin Benoit blew the save by giving up 3 hits, 3 ER after only getting one out in the 9th inning.

The Red Sox won this game in no short help from unexpected places in the lineup. Mike Carp scored a run after hitting a double and getting a walk, Dustin Pedroia (while not totally surprising) got 2 hits and a run score, but Stephen Drew hitting a 2-run home run in the 9th inning made the game quite spectacular. While John Lackey didn’t enjoy the personal pitcher win (finishing 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 3 ER, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts), Koji Uehara did get the save.
