Alas,Justin Verlandergave an 8 inning, 1 ER, 4 hit, 8 K performance that was all for not, asJoaquin Benoitblew the save by giving up 3 hits, 3 ER after only getting one out in the 9th inning.
The Red Sox won this game in no short help from unexpected places in the lineup.Mike Carpscored a run after hitting a double and getting a walk,Dustin Pedroia(while not totally surprising) got 2 hits and a run score, butStephen Drewhitting a 2-run home run in the 9th inning made the game quite spectacular. WhileJohn Lackeydidn’t enjoy the personal pitcher win (finishing 5.2 innings, 5 hits, 3 ER, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts),Koji Ueharadid get the save.
