Tigers vs Red Sox: Game 2

This was a tale of two stories. The Tigers’ story was of squandered opportunities, as Andy Dirks and Fielder got on base 3 times each. However, Victor Martinez and Omar Infante going hitless did not help to bring either of the successful hitters around to score. Jim Leyland did not strike gold on his second attempt of leaving Max Scherzer in too long in this postseason, as he lasted only 2 innings and gave up 6 ER on 7 hits, a walk and a strikeout. Rick Porcello did not fare well in relief either, as he gave up 5 ER on 6 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Big Papi paved the way for others to slug their way to victory in this matchup. Despite hitting all singles, he went 2-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored. The true sluggers in this game were Jarrod Saltalamacchia (2-4 with a grand slam) and Will Middlebrooks (1-4 with a 3-run home run). This gave Clay Buchholz more than enough run support to snatch up the win, as he finished the game with 7.1 innings of 1 run, 7 hit, 2 walk and 7 K ball.
