Tigers vs Red Sox: Game 1

The Tigers had almost nothing going for them in Game 1 until the Top of the 8th inning, where the offense finally showed up. Prince Fielder led the team going 3-4 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI. Everyone else on the team managed only one hit, at most. This included a 2-run home run by Austin Jackson and a hit and a walk by Miguel Cabrera (who was pinch ran for by Don Kelly). Anibal Sanchez did not earn the win after going 5 innings and giving up 4 ER on 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 K’s. The win went to Octavio Dotel in 2 shutout innings.

The Red Sox had it going early, and made it close in the end, but did not get the result they wanted. 2-hit games by Shane Victorino and Mike Napoli could only do so much. The result made Jon Lester‘s performance not as impressive, as he went 7 strong shutout innings and gave up only 5 hits, 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. The loss went to Junichi Tazawa, who gave up 6 ER without recording an out. Ouch.
