DespiteStarling Martegoing 0-NLDS, the Pirates eventually came out on top by winning Game 4, thus winning the series.Andrew McCutchenand his bat finally woke up in the final game, going 2-4 with a stolen base. Burnett also won his first game of the postseason, sporting a 2.89 ERA in the series after a shortened outing. Don’t worry, it was for pre-cautionary reasons that he was taken out (due to a small hamstring strain).
Despite having the best record in the National League, the Cardinals ended up with a disappointing final push.Daniel DescalsoandPete Kozmahas the lone hits out of the entire team, with Wainwright pitching yet another game in which the offense did not match his pitching performance. He finished 7 innings and gave up 1 earned run over 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out 9 innings.
