Pirates vs Cardinals: Game 2
This was a close game with many squandered opportunities until late in the top of the 8th inning, when Neil Walker stepped up to the plate and clobbered a solo home run. He finished 2-3 with a run, 2 walks and 2 RBI. Gerrit Cole held his own in his first postseason start, lasting 6 innings and giving up a lone ER, 8 hits, 1 walk and striking out 5.
Jon Jay kept his team close in the game, going 2-4 with a stolen base. Matt Holliday continues to slump in the playoffs, going 0-3 and 2 K’s and is batting .142 for the short series. Lance Lynn pitched his butt off, going 7 strong innings with 1 ER, 2 hits, 3 walks and 11 K’s. John Axford was awarded the loss on the solo HR given up to Walker, in which he was promptly removed from the game afterwards.
