Peach Joins Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Cast, Surprising Nobody
She has been a Smash Bros character since Melee in 2001 and it looks like it will stay that way uninterrupted. Princess Peach has been confirmed as a playable character in the upcoming Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS games on the Smash Bros website.
As IGN points out in their article cover image, Toad will be used as part of Peach’s moveset, meaning that he may not be a playable character in Super Smash Bros Wii U. Not that he’s ever been playable within a Smash Bros game, but it might mean yet another long wait for Toad to get involved in the series. He’s been a key character in the Mario franchise, with inclusion in some of their top games like Super Mario Bros. 2, and it makes sense that he gets the respect he deserves at some point in the future.
The Fighting Game Community (FGC) must be thrilled about this news, however. Peach was a great player to play as in competitive Smash Bros play, as she was considered top tier in Super Smash Bros Melee and around mid-tier in Brawl. As someone who always played Link despite being among the lowest rung of characters in the series, what truly matters is that an essential character to the Nintendo franchise that is Peach will remain part of the game.
Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS versions are expected to launch sometime in 2014. Look out for future Nintendo Directs in the months ahead for more clarification on its release date.
