Kingdom Hearts III Reportedly A Long Wait Away
Because Tetsuya Nomura will be the director for both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, don’t expect Kingdom Hearts III to be out for quite some time. That is, according to series producer Shinji Hashimoto in an interview with IGN.
"Both [Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV] have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can’t create these two big games at the same time. It’s a difficult job, as we want each game to be perfect in terms of quality…But please, we need you all to understand that there’s a lot to do."
It is a little bit concerning for Kingdom Hearts III fans, as FFXV doesn’t seem to have an estimated launch window down pat yet and is much furher along in production. Knowing Square Enix’s long development time on their Final Fantasy games post-Final Fantasy X means that we might not see Sora, Goofy and Donald Duck in a playable game until possibly the middle of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s life cycles.
Another reason for the delay could possibly be due to the leadership changes of all of Square Enix’s properties. We have already seen the GM of Eidos Montreal step down as a result of them, and while the two cases may not be linked it certainly wouldn’t be out of the question.
The sooner we can get reasonable projections for both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, the quicker we can end such speculation. RPG fans are craving something great out of the next generation of consoles, with Square Enix looking to sate their appetite.
