Kabam Publishing Popular Chinese Web Game Wartune For Mobile In The West
By Nick Tylwalk
Kabam has had plenty of success with its own mobile strategy/RPG hybrids, but the company started a $50 million development fund a few months ago with the thought that it could work together with Asian developers to bring their games to North America and Europe to reinforce its lineup. That initiative is bearing fruit, as Kabam announced today that it will be the exclusive distributor for the popular Chinese web game “Wartune” on mobile devices in the West.
“Wartune” was developed for the Chinese market by 7th Road and Hoolai Games, and it sounds like it will be a perfect fit for what Kabam already does well. The game features RPG, city-building and resource management elements as players seek out more territory, build up and enhance their holdings, and fight monsters and other players to earn magical stones to buff their weapons and armor. As shown in the artwork shown here, it appears “Wartune” will also have a richer visual component than most similar games already on the market.
It’s also already known outside of China, as half of its in-game revenue for the web version comes from English-speaking areas. That makes it even more of a natural for distribution for Kabam on the mobile side.
“Kabam’s mobile license for ‘Wartune’ is another indication of how Kabam is taking the lead in mobile core games,” said Amit Ranade, president of Kabam Distribution, in a company press release. “Asian game developers have come to appreciate Kabam as a distribution partner they can trust to expose their titles to the huge markets outside of their home countries.”
“Wartune” has no release date planned so far, so keep checking GameSided for more information in the coming months.
