Best Sports Game – MLB 13: The Show
If there was ever an argument that annualized sports games aren’t just lazily-made series’ with the sole purpose of generating lots of easy money, MLB 13: The Show would be the game to prove it.
Exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and developed by Sony’s San Diego Studio, this game improved drastically upon its predecessors, possibly more so than in any of its previous years. Postseason Mode, improved controls, physics, revamping Franchise and Road To The Show modes are just some of the hundreds of upgrades made by this game. The balls fly off the bat with a much higher accuracy than before, players look a lot more like their real life counterpart, the Cubs don’t win the World Series until at least 2032 (in my Franchise Mode simulation): the game imitates baseball life.
They have even upgraded the rules to reflect the current state of baseball. The Houston Astros are now in the AL West and there is an extra wild card spot per league. Additionally, rosters are updated throughout the year to reflect all the big trades and prospect call ups. Online mode is still a bit iffy depending on your connection, but it’s a small gripe for what is otherwise perfection.
