The Wonderful 101 Not Doing So Wonderfully In Japan
Each week in Japan a report is published, detailing the software sold at major gaming retailers. It’s called the Media Create Sales and has been going on for quite some time. This week’s Media Create showed that Hideki Kamiya’s The Wonderful 101 debuted at #14 with only 5,258 copies of the game sold in Japan.

It is a major disappointment for Platinum Games, Nintendo and Hideki Kamiya himself, who is responsible for the direction of many well-loved games both in Japan and abroad. Some of those titles include Resident Evil 2, the original Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta. The Wii U has been looking for a killer app or any type of software title that can both post huge sales of the game and push hardware sales of Nintendo’s Wii U console, itself. That just doesn’t appear to have happened yet.
The Wonderful 101 has already launched in Japan, Europe and Australia and will launch on the Wii U here in North America on September 15th. Hopefully for Nintendo, North America will prove to be more receptive of the game.
