In “The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot,” the phrase “open house” might not mean the exact same thing it does in everyday life. Nevertheless, Ubisoft is inviting everyone to try the game on August 27 to get a taste of all the looting action that’s going to be going on once the game makes its official launch.
Still currently in closed beta, “Mighty Quest” (I’m not typing the whole thing out again!) is a tongue-in-cheek combo of an action RPG like “Diablo” and a castle-building sim. The best part is that the first directly impacts the second, as the spoils you get from taking your warrior into other castles to defeat monsters and make off with treasurs allows you to beef up the defenses of your own fortress, preventing other players from looting your abode.
It’s slated to be free-to-play with microtransactions and really could be fun if you have friends who play. I had a chance to check it out a few weeks ago for Max Parker’s Game Guy blog and really enjoyed it, even in its unfinished state.
To make the open house even more enticing, Ubisoft is using it to kick off what it’s calling the Loot-O-Thon. Running through September 3, the event will have the entire game community looking to loot one billion in total gold. If the goal is reached, the developers will unlock new traps and creatures for everyone to use.
I’ll vouch for the fact that the open house and the Loot-O-Thon should be a lot of fun—as long as you avoid my castle. I’ve got some nasty stuff waiting for everyone in there. If you’re down, head to themightyquest.com and register for free, then look for your open house invite to come your way soon.
