Ah, “Draw Something.” Your star burned so bright but faded out so fast. I feel like we should have “Candle in the Wind” playing in the background while we discuss this or something.
While “Draw Something” took the mobile gaming world by storm and certainly ranks right up there with the most honestly named products in history, it’s even more notable for the actions it spawned behind the scenes. Developer Omgpop was snatched up by Zynga for $180 million since the social gaming giant was hungry for mobile success, and it worked—for a while.
Fast-forward a little more than a year. No one has played “Draw Something” for quite some time, and Omgpop is a month away from being shuttered by Zynga. It’s a success story and a cautionary tale all rolled into one.
