7. The Walking Dead

It sure didn’t hurt that “The Walking Dead” is an incredibly popular IP in all of its many forms, but Telltale Games really stepped up to the plate and delivered with its episodic take. Did I cheat a bit by including it even though it’s also available on darn near every gaming platform there is? Maybe a little, but to me it really shines on mobile, helping raise the bar for adventure games.

Even without focusing on the familiar characters from the comic or TV show, “The Walking Dead” succeeds in telling a gripping story that had plenty of players waiting impatiently for the next episode when it first came out. Like the best comic issues, the zombies become a dangerous backdrop rather than the focus, and the story is really more about human nature and the effects of the choices we make.
