Plenty of games on this list impress with their depth, complexity, or innovation. “Fruit Ninja” ain’t one of them. This is about as simple as gameplay gets, requiring you to swipe at the screen at the correct time to chop the ever-living crap out of as much flying fruit as you can.

There’s a kind of frantic genius to it since it’s a race against the clock, and it’s visually right on the money with the colorful fruit splattering on the screen in a non-stop rainbow of colors. My kids and I had kind of fallen out of love with “Fruit Ninja” until we ran into it in boardwalk arcades this summer at the Jersey Shore. Then it was back to slicing and dicing like we had just discovered it for the first time. Well played Halfbrick.
