Oculus Rift Team Announces Oculus Share Program
Over on the Oculus Rift blog comes the news of a beta launch of what is being called “Oculus Share.” It will act as a “new platform that lets you self-publish, discover, download, and play the best VR games and experiences out there.”
"Oculus Share (or simply, Share) is the first of many steps we’re taking to build the best virtual reality platform. With Share, you can host Oculus-ready games and experiences that you’ve created, browse and download content from other developers, rate experiences on quality and VR comfort level, provide feedback to devs on what you enjoyed (and what you didn’t), and tip fellow developers for their work in cash, should you feel so inclined."
This is huge news for the world of gaming. Oculus Rift is just the first step towards a fully immersive 3D gaming virtual reality environment, and the only way to progress this development is to get as many people interested through the door. Initially the Oculus VR group will be vetting the content to make sure it is deemed suitable for self-publication, as lewd or questionable content will tarnish the reputation of the Oculus Rift program.
It seems like they truly want to create a safe and welcoming development hub. It is difficult to both innovate, create and morph interactive 3D gaming worlds without knowing what can and cannot work with the Oculus Rift hardware technology involved. Share looks to be an effective sandbox that allows you to have fun while tapping into your own creative inhibitions in an effort to create something new.
