Nintendo 3DS Top Selling Console in US for Third Straight Month
Continuing its recent 2013 surge, the Nintendo 3DS is the best selling console in the United States for a third consecutive month, beating the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Nintendo reported a hardware and software sales increase of 14 and 25 per cent respectively, in comparison to last year’s late summer numbers.
The handheld device also continued to get strong support from its exclusive game Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which sold more than 150,000 physical and digital copies, bringing its grand total to over 660,000 combined units in just two months.
With Microsoft and Sony currently pushing the future release of the Xbox One and PS4 respectively, Nintendo has been successfully capitalizing on those interested in what the gaming industry has to offer right now.
The news is a breath of fresh air after Nintendo expressed concerns over the poor sales of the Wii U, despite the 117% increase in Japanese Wii U sales since the release of Pikmin 3.
And it doesn’t look like Nintendo’s 3Ds momentum will slow down anytime soon, with fans being able to recently get their hands on Pikmin 3 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Later this year, two new Zelda instalments and a the highly anticipated Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will also be hitting shelves.
