Mario Kart Helps 10-Year-Old Save Grandmother
A 10-year old Colorado boy is crediting the game Mario Kart for helping him save his grandmother’s life.
Gryffin Sanders took control of the wheel after his grandmother, 74-year-old Darlene Nestor, suddenly passed out during mid sentence. Sanders had also been riding with his 4-year old brother at the time.
Having sat in the front passenger seat, Sanders initially tried to awaken his grandmother. After being unable to help her regain consciousness, he took control of the vehicle which was travelling around 60 mph. Soon after, he drove the car to the side of the road.
"“I [wanted to] get us somewhere where we could get out of the way of traffic,” said Sanders."
Afterwards, a bystander called 911 and Nestor was airlifted to a hospital where she is recovering.
Though it hasn’t currently been specified by Sanders, it’s likely that playing the Nintendo Wii version of the game is how he learned to steer. It’s the most recent instalment of the game and can also be played with a Wii steering wheel remote.
