It’s football!

Robin Antonick is now a much wealthier man.

The original designer of the Madden NFL franchise has been awarded $11-million in his lawsuit against publisher Electronic Arts. The lawsuit was filed by Antonick as a way to seek unpaid royalties for titles in the series released from 1990 to 1996.

A US District Court jury in the Northern District of California found that games released during that time “were virtually identical to the original version of Madden NFL Football, developed by Antonick,” as stated in a press release issued by Hagens Berman, the law firm representing Antonick.

With the first part of the case ending in Antonick’s favor, the case will now move on to the next major phase: Does EA owe Antonick  for games in the series from 1997 to today?

That ruling is expected to come over the next few weeks.
