"Atari has auctioned off several of its prominent video game assets, and if everything is approved by a New York bankruptcy court on Wednesday, popular franchises such as “Total Annihilation,” “Master of Orion,” “Star Control” and “Battlezone” will have new homes.Wargaming, creator of “World of Tanks,” was the winning bidder for the “Total Annihilation” and “Master of Orion” series, while developer Rebellion placed the high bid for “Battlezone” and “Moonbase Commander,” according to a bankruptcy court document (via Game Informer). Stardock was the high bidder for the “Star Control” IP. The winning bids were not disclosed in the documents, although the base price for TA was previously listed at $250,000."
"Two years ago, at the 2011 Game Developer’s Conference, I played a perfect game. It was so simple, so fluid, so delightful. It was “Nidhogg.” Two players face off in a simple side-scrolling arena, their pixelated fencers stabbing with silver swords, where a single touch means death but a parry is as easy as matching your opponent’s guard. If you’re feeling daring, you can run, jump, slide, throw your sword, engage in fisticuffs, and try your best not to then get stabbed in the back. And you do feel daring, because of how hilariously and quickly the lightning-fast bouts can end. Unfortunately, as I found out when returning home from GDC 2011, you can’t buy “Nidhogg.” It was an exhibition-only title.Until later this year, anyhow. Indie Games reports that “Nidhogg” will finally see release this year, with a handful of new features to boot."
"During all the Comic-Con craziness, the EVO 2013 booing event and the Steam Summer Sale, we almost completely forgot about covering some upcoming Greenlight titles on Steam’s indie service. The latest game to instantly start making waves on Greenlight is the Thai-based arcade-mech game, “Project Nimbus.”This Unreal Engine powered title is being designed by GameCrafterTeam and they’re using their expertise in the field to flesh out a new kind of Japanese-inspired mech action title that seems to combine some of “Ace Combat” with “Armored Core” and a little bit of Sega’s “Virtual-On: Cybertroopers.”"
