Age Of Wushu Headed For Movie, Mobile Screens
By Nick Tylwalk
The martial arts MMORPG “Age of Wushu” already has some cinematic qualities, and it clearly draws a lot of influences from wuxia and wire fu movies. But does that mean that “Age of Wushu” would actually make a good movie in its own right?
Snail Games is betting that it is, announcing plans to develop a film based on the property.
“The ‘Age of Wushu’ game looks and plays like a major martial arts motion picture so bringing the property to movie screens is a logical evolution,” said Shi Hai, founder and chairman, Snail Games, in a company . “Our goal has always been for the property to reach the widest audience so evolving to a feature film and expanding the experience to consoles and mobile devices continues our plan.”
The second part of that quote is also interesting. Bringing the game to consoles, especially the next gen machines launching this fall, makes sense given its focus on action and PvP battles. A mobile version is harder to envision, but cross-platform is the future for MMOs in general, so it’s never a surprise to hear companies talk about plans that include smartphones and tablets.
