US Government Views League of Legends CS Play As Pro Sport

As we kick off early Evolution Championship Series play, top eSports commentator Deman brought wonderful news about League of Legends Championship Series professional play.

Not only does this make it easier for players to show up at more international League of Legends tournaments, but it is also a huge stepping stone towards increasing the legitimacy of eSports in general . Starcraft II, Dota II, Call of Duty and players within those and other eSport communities are now given more freedom to make a name for themselves by playing in more competitions and help establish themselves as professionals.

The wording of the tweet might stir up some controversy. Fans of major sports like hockey, baseball, basketball and football might not like trying to pool League of Legends and other video games as “on par” with professional contact and skill sports. Playing a character in a virtual world is not nearly the same as hitting a round ball with a round bat or breaking tackles to run in a touchdown.

Where do you stand, GameSiders? Are eSports like League of Legends and CoD on par with any of the four major sports? Do you consider it on par with more skill and luck-based games like Poker? Let us know below!
