End Of Nations Finds New Life As A MOBA

At the Trion Worlds booth at E3 2012, I experienced one of my more pleasant surprises on the show when I was shown “End of Nations.” Not only did I find the idea of an MMORTS intriguing, but the Petroglyph team was the most enthusiastic bunch on the floor.

Sadly, that enthusiasm didn’t help “End of Nations” make it to launch. It got to the beta stage before the development process halted and the game was taken over by Trion Worlds. I don’t think I was alone in thinking it may have been dead.

Yet apparently it was simply being retooled as a MOBA, or as the company puts it, “the first MOBA RTS.” According to an email that went out to prior beta participants, the game has been given a drastic overhaul and is going back into alpha next week. The new incarnation will focus on tactical MOBA gameplay, customizable heroes and support units, and varied commander classes featuring unique abilities.

Sounds promising if a bit vague, but Trion Worlds sounds like it is allowing the people who helped beta test the first time around have the initial crack at playing the new version. Anyone can sign up for the new beta, and more information is supposed to be rolling out over the coming months.

So welcome back “End of Nations.” Hopefully you stick around this time.
