Early buzz on “Pacific Rim” has been mixed, but Guillermo del Toro’s giant mecha versus giant monsters flick has some solid celebrity support. First Kanye West showed some love for the movie on Twitter. But that was nothing compared to “Metal Gear” series mastermind Hideo Kojima, who really upped the ante with his tweets expressing his love for the film.
Comparing it to the thrills he got when first seeing “2001: A Space Odyssey” or “Jurassic Park” for the first time, Kojima had nothing but nice things to say about del Toro and his vision:
I have never imagined that I would be fortunate enough to see a film like this in my life.

This film is not simply a film to be respected, but most importantly, it let us dream the future of entertainment movies.

If that wasn’t enough, Kojima went even further by basically calling his countrymen out if they don’t like “Pacific Rim”:
Pacific Rim is the ultimate otaku film that all of us had always been waiting for. Who are you, if you are Japanese and won't watch this?

I hope you would accept this inspirational love letter that had traveled across the Pacific, written by Director Guillermo del Toro.

Of course as others have pointed out, Kojima is a little biased toward subject matter that involves giant robot suits. It’s still cool to see a man who has entertained so many people with his games gush over another work of pop culture. And if a giant monster makes an appearance in the next “Metal Gear” game, at least we’ll all know what inspired it.
