Save Freemarch And Silverwood In Rift’s Latest Event
By Nick Tylwalk
Trion Worlds has been pretty consistent about coming up with in-game events for “Rift” that threaten locations all over Telara, but rarely have they struck as close to home as the current one that runs through July 2. Both Freemarch and Silverwood are under siege, which means the main cities for the Defiant and the Guardians, Meridian and Sanctum, are in jeopardy.
Of course the danger is caused by planar invaders (this is “Rift,” after all), which means that all characters can join in to help push back the attackers. The fact that the action is so close to the starting zones for both factions makes it especially suitable for low level characters, but rewards like bonus planar currency will scale to any level. Additional special items will drop during zone events in the affected areas, including the Sapphire Ki Rin Mount, several kinds of capes and hats, and a Riot Torch (presumably not to burn stuff down while rioting, but who knows?).
From a larger perspective, the interest will be seeing what kind of turnout the siege brings. “Rift” just went completely free-to-play on June 12, and this is the first large-scale event since then. Major MMOs that make the transition from a subscription model to F2P usually see a large bump in active players when it happens, but the proof, as they say is in the pudding. Or on the servers, in this case.
As famous linebacker/dancer/philosopher Ray Lewis once screamed at us in a commercial, “We must protect this house!” It’s time to protect the houses of the Guardians and the Defiant, so grab your favorite character and get to it.
