Microsoft Clarifies Headset Issue

When the Xbox One was revealed back on May 21, consumers learned that the current Xbox 360 wired headset — or any headsets for that matter — would not be compatible with the new console.

Now, due to mass confusion as to why that’s so, Microsoft has released a statement to hopefully make clear the exact reasoning why you can’t use your wired 360 headset with the Xbox One.

“The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console,” Microsoft told Game Informer in a statement. “This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input.”

Microsoft did leave the door open ever so slightly that the old headset could become compatible with the Xbox One at some point down the line.

“Xbox plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio.”

If this does mean what many hope it means, then it will be news that is sure to make gamers very happy. Some of the current hi-tech headsets cost hundreds of dollars, and for them to never be able to be used with a Microsoft console other than the 360 would just be silly.
