Nvidia Shield Delayed Into July
With one android-based microconsole (Ouya) already on the market, another android-based system has hit a snag with its planned release.
Nvidia has announced that its portable Shield system’s release has been pushed back to “sometime in July” due to a third-party mechanical issue. The Shield was supposed to be launched this week, and as of publishing, no new release date has been announced.
“During our final QA process, we discovered a mechanical issue that relates to a 3rd party component,” Nvidia said in a released statement. “We want every Shield to be perfect, so we have elected to shift the launch date to July. We’ll update you as soon as we have an exact date.”
Originally scheduled to release with a $349.99 price tag, Nvidia announced last week that the hand-held system will be released at $299.99. One has to wonder now if another price cut may be coming due to the technical issues hampering its launch.
The Shield has a 5-inch, 720p screen, and a tegra 4 processor chip. It will also support the streaming of PC games to the device if your PC is equipped with a GTX 650 GPU or higher.
