Xbox One To Ship Without Headset

Remember that new headset that Microsoft showed off last weekend? Well, many assumed that the new peripheral would be shipped with the console like the headset that came with the Xbox 360 for the past eight years. However, that won’t be the case.

Microsoft confirmed on Tuesday that the Xbox One will be sans headset when it ships this November. The reason being that the company claims that the microphone in the new Kinect will suffice for online chat for gamers.

The headset, described by Microsoft as “a must-have for fans of online gaming”, will instead be sold separately at launch.  At the time of this writing there is no MSRP price listed for the Xbox One headset.

In addition to the Microsoft issued headset, there will be other options for gamers when the system launches. Turtle Beach and Polk are releasing their own line of headsets for the Xbox One that are expected to be available immediately at launch.

In comparison, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, which will launch around the same time for $100 less than the Xbox One, will include a mono ear bud-style headset in the box for purchasers.

Sound off Gamesiders! Good move or bad to not include a headset with the Xbox One console?
